Physics

What’s a physicist?

A physicist is someone who explores and identifies the basic principles that govern the structure and behaviour of matter, the interaction between energy and matter, and the generation and transfer of energy. These principals can be used in both theoretical and practical areas. Physicists typically specialize in one of many subfields, and some will go further to specialize in a subdivision of one of these subfields. However, all physics involve the same fundamental principles.

What does physicist do?

Most physicists work in research and development. Some do basic research to increase scientific knowledge. Physicists who conduct applied research build upon the discoveries made through basic research and work to develop new devices, products, and processes. Physicists also design research equipment, which often has additional unanticipated uses.

Physicists may work in inspection, testing, quality control and other production-related jobs in industry. A science degree with physics will provide an excellent training in problem-solving and computing skills that can be applied in a wide variety of careers in industry, business, government, university and education.
